Carter’s Beginner Cinnamon Roll Base
Carter’s Beginner Cinnamon Roll Base was developed as both a first cinnamon roll lesson and a simple foundational sweet dough you can build on as your skills grow. The recipe includes a detailed, beginner-friendly workflow with metric measurements, ingredient and dough temperatures, fermentation and proofing cues, shaping guidance, doneness temperatures, troubleshooting, and notes to help you understand what you’re looking for—not just follow a timer.
This formula was developed and tested at approximately 600–700 feet above sea level, so it was not developed or tested for high-altitude baking. If you bake at a significantly higher elevation, you may need adjustments based on your specific altitude, climate, oven, and formula behavior. There is no single universal “high-altitude adjustment” I can responsibly give that works everywhere, so I recommend learning the fundamentals of high-altitude baking and adjusting based on your own conditions rather than applying one blanket conversion.
If you’re a beginner, make the base as written and use it to learn the fundamentals. If you’re more experienced, consider it a starting formula: change the hydration, enrichment, fermentation, flour system, filling, shaping, or technique and see where you take it.
